Meal Program
Automated Meal System
Kauluwela Elementary School is in it's second year of the Community Eligibility Provision program offered through the USDA. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other specific means-tested programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
Each student will have an automated account for meals at school. The student accounts will be utilized to deposit funds for second breakfast, second lunch, or extra milk. A bar code will be provided on the student ID badges.
To make a deposit into an account, place a check (to Kauluwela School) into a sealed envelope, label envelope with your child’s name, grade and room number. For your convenience, envelopes are available in the office. Place sealed envelopes in the drop box located in the main office. Teachers will not collect lunch payment, parents or students must drop them off themselves. Payments/deposits may be split between siblings within the same school.
Please look for notices sent home indicating low or negative meal balances. The system keeps track of how your child is spending the deposited funds. Requests to view your students account history may be made at the office.
All students are provided one free breakfast and one free lunch per day. If a student wishes to have a second meal, or extra milk they will be charged the full price for the meal. Parents who want to purchase breakfast will be issued a meal card in the office. No cash transactions are allowed in the cafeteria.
If your child has food allergies (i.e. milk), we ask that parents provide a doctor’s note to our school health aide and cafeteria manager. Please do this as soon as possible so your child can have a beverage with breakfast and lunch.
