Attendance Policy

(revised 09/2018)

At Kauluwela Elementary School, our mission is to nurture all students by addressing their individual needs to prepare them for the ever-changing world. Research shows that school attendance is a primary indicator of academic success, and optimum benefits of education can only be achieved when students attend school daily and are in class on time.

To ensure the success of all our students, Kauluwela Elementary School has revised its attendance policy and procedures to align with the Hawaii Department of Education Attendance Policy and the Hawaii Administrative Rules. The Hawaii Revised Statutes, §302A-1132, states that “all school age children must attend either a public or private school unless exempted.” This law also states that it is the parent or guardian’s legal responsibility to send the child to school. Likewise, the school is responsible to work with our families to improve student attendance.

Please review the following school absence/tardy procedures.
